It gives grays, browns and blacks, depending on the glaze. Potters also mix it into clay or slip to make dark or speckled clay bodies.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eGetting started\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eIn a glaze, start at 1 to 2% (1 to 2 grams per 100 grams of dry glaze) and test.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eIn clay or slip, start around 2% for a gray body and add more for darker color.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eLike chrome oxide, it can turn tin-bearing glazes pink, in the same pot or in the same kiln.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eFire a test tile before you use it on finished work.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eFor glaze formulators\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eIron chromite (FeCr₂O₄ type).
