The normal life expectancy is about 1600 hours before rebuilding is required.The Lehman Studio Star external pump was designed for the small to medium size ceramic studio. It is not suitable for production casting or commercial use.This pump is located on the outside of the tank and is coupled directly to the motor with a flexible coupling. This pump is not designed to be submersed in slip.The pump has packings that are exposed to the slip. These packings keep the shaft aligned as well as to keep the pump from leaking. The packings will wear due to the abrasive nature of slip. They can be adjusted when leakage occurs (see section on care and maintenance), but they will eventually have to be replaced when adjustment no longer stops the pump from leaking.
